EXT term 4

Thank you

WALT: write with a specific audience in mind. 

Dear Helpers, thank you for helping us with athletics day. I hope you have didn't have much trouble setting it up than taking it down. I hope you have enjoyed your day.

 I had fun doing athletics day but they day went fast and only some where exciting. It was an hot day and got a short break (morning tea). Some of the activity’s were kinda hard to do but most where easy to do. Many people were doing athletics day and was kinda hard to find your activity sometimes.

My favorite part of athletics day was the relays. In the relays we had an ladder on the floor and had too jump in between the spaces, then we had to jump over 2 hurdles run around an pole, then tag the other person to go. Soon we had to skip twice with a skipping rope and do 2 push ups then run back. Than we had to under they hurdles.

 Next year I will try my best at the activities that I didn't do best at. Next year I will be better at cheering for my team or other people. Next year I hope we get an little more time doing the activities or add more activities.

I have learnt not too stand behind someone in dodge ball. I enjoyed playing dodge ball, relays and other things too.

Immersion assembly term 4

On Monday the first day of school we had a immersion assembly. Every in PT England

school went there to know the theme for this term. Have you ever been to an immersion assembly, what was your topic?

The school theme for term 4 is Musical madness. After learning what the topic was about we got to watch the other team's movies. Teams 1-3 where learning how too make instruments out of different materials the where also learning too make music.

Team's 4 movie was about PT england music (an ad). The teachers were listening to different music and everyone time the music changed they teachers swapped seats, there were 3 teachers twice in the movie. The movie was funny but the movie couldn't go online because of copyright reasons.

I hope to be able to create our own music by using different sites (Like garage band)  I have created music before for the extension production and I hope we do another one. I hope we learn about how to make music by using different sounds. I want to learn about

I'm excited for this term's theme I hope we can create our own music from time to time. I wouldn't like having to play an instrument but the only one I would like to use are drums.

I saw a movie at my mother's house which is in onehunga which is far away and my brother and sister lives there too. the movie was called baby driver and there wasn't a baby driving a car it was a criminal movie. there was a man called baby who drives robbers to banks (with mask) and then drives away from cops. baby also listens to music because his parents died in a car crash when he was a kid, he was also in the car. after a while he falls in love with a girl at a coffee which also works at the coffee shop to, he name was barbra.

EXT paidea seminar

I think that I have done good and spoke more then I have last time. I got to my goal which was to speak more and share what I though. I thought I did a good job with sharing my ideas for the topic. I think talking about our planet went good but the other planets said some good things about their planet.I think being civilised is good because there not many wars for land and the wars could be about jealousy. many people in the medieval age started wars for land and then when one kingdom wins they destroy the other kingdom they where battling but when they claimed land another kingdom would attack to claim the land but now wars are because of jelousy or something else. the topic for our seminar was is being civilised good? being civilased has its pros and cons (pros: good cons:bad). going back to when caveman lived we weren't civilased but now we are. do you think being civilased is a good thing or bad thing.

Star dome trip

Walt include a variety of sentence types in our writing
On thursday we were going on a trip to star dome it was three dollars to go, 2$ for the bus and 1$. We were in groups too. On the way me and my friend (we were in they same groups) and played games on the bus while waiting to get to star dome. When we got to star dome we sat down in our lines waiting to go in.  have you ever been in star dome before?

Our teacher said that we arrived 10 minutes early so we got to play on the park. They park had an flying fox an tire spinning thing ( I don't know the name of it) and an spider web there was more to the park. After we were finished we got back into our lines than we went inside. What park have you been too?   

Inside the building near the entry there was a rocket figure made of lego. In the building there were rocket figures made of lego. There were telescopes, rockets, screens (with info about space shuttles) and other stuff. After that where went too do an quiz with our groups then we went into a dome to watch an short movie. Have you done a quiz about space before?  

In the dome  we sat on some seats I sat with my friend and we looked up at the dome and watched what happened. Before they movie we say we're jupiter and saturn was at night. When we watched the movie it was about finding a new place to live. When the movie was done we went onto the bus and went back to school. Have you seen a movie about space before?

During our trip I have learnt that we should take of earth better so we don't need to move planets. I also learnt that when making rocket figures it's easier too use lego instead of using a lot of money. I have learnt about titan have methane rain and methane slush rivers.

2017 cross country

On Friday last week we had our cross country race. All the teams where sitting from year one to year 8. The girls and boys were separated in different lines. Once we got into our lines Mr Burt told us what was going to happened. Teachers were going through the lines giving kids some sun cream.

EXT Production reflection

I can improve my planning research by researching more about sounds and planning more things. I could improve my collaboration by talking more with my group and to other people and share my ideas. I can improve my performance by timing things better learning more lines better. I can improve by making better sound effects and make more music. I could talk more in seminars and talk about what I think about things and talk about my ideas more. I should collab more in seminars and piggyback more on other people's ideas. I could comment on people's ideas more.

7 planets 7 men

7 men in 7 rockets ready to blast off into space to explore the 7 other planets and see which one is good to live on. The 7 men got into their rockets suited up and got in there seats and waited go.

All the rockets were big and small to get to certain planets. 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...BLAST OFF!. 7 men blasting off into space in different directions going to different planets, all the men have found their location and stopped to stand on them

bob stood on mercury with his water bottle staring at the gray rocky ground picking up some rocks throwing them in a sack ‘living on this planet is impossible it's to close too they sun, we can't live here’ said bob throwing the sack in his rocket. Now he's blasting off again.

Donny got out his rocket standing on venus staring at the rock and dust, sweating off his hair cooling himself down in his rocket. ‘It's way to hot here it burned my lunch welp I got what I wanted, Man they second planet is way too hot’ said Donny Blasting off again and away he

The planet near the earth the third planet from the sun mars is the one, the forth from the sun, small and red can be seen at night. Mar colors is rust people say it red. ‘Mars is to cold it even froze my water we can't live here we will all be turned to ice ’ said damon getting into his rocket. Now he's blasting off again and away he went.

Jupiter the fifth from the sun, it's also a gas giant the biggest one to. It has lots of moons and their all big. Kooper landed on one of jupiter's moons and threw a can at jupiter. the can fell threw jupiter and got crushed. ‘We can't live on here we all will get crushed and the storms here are dangerous’ said kooper, now he's blasting off again and away he went

A rocket flew around uranus circling it while throwing things into it. ‘Nope not living here it's too cold we can't stand on everything and they sun looks like an little white dot, wel time to go back. Said damion. Now he's blasting off again, and away he went.

Neb went to neptune circled around it's for an while be decided to throw some old junk in it taking an picture too. Neb didn't bother to say anything he just started shivering and now he's blasting off again. Off he goes back to earth.

All the 7 astronauts in their rockets going back too earth the all landed getting out. They all realized that earth
was the perfect planet for them and they didn't need to leave.

Seminar review

The extension crew had a paideia seminar there were groups of 2 and my buddy was Justice. We could choose a perspective me and justice chose scientist. Me and justice wrote what we would say. Justice said most thing but not about us.We sat where we wanted to and a plate with chocolate marshmallow a lollipop and mini mentos.Everytime we spoke we got to take one of the lollies and eat it. We got a tick besides our name when we spoke or commented on someone else. We could talk about what perspective we chose or talk about what someone else is talking about. in the seminar I learnt that people are jerks to plants and want money. I also learnt scientist where the people who came up with the idea to burn coal to make power but didn't think about the air getting polluted BUT they could fix its in different ways. I learnt that people started to kill the earth and they didn't know they were.Next time Im gonna try to talk more and comment on peoples idea more. I could piggy back on peoples idea and I could challenge people more and ask them different questions. me and justice can challenge other groups and look threw different perspectives.

Astronaut training

We did training that astronauts do to prepare for going in space and their were 4 teams I was in the red team they other teams where blue, green and yellow. First we had to run to a cone, go around it and zig zag around other cones to another cone behind the line and run to a cone that was near the first cone we ran past first. The second challenge was we had to do the bear crawl and the crab walk the winner got 20 points. The last challenge was we had to jump on a mini trampoline and land with the most style. The winner of the training was green.

Space Food

We learned a about what astronauts ate for lunch, dessert and for a sandwich.

Finding a new planet

Walt: structure a narrative piece of writing. 
At year 4017 the earth is dying and everyone is panicking! Two people volunteered to go out into space to find a new Planet... and they also brought a pig. NASA brought the two men Called Deavay and Justice... Justice brought the pig. The Rocket was huge, and NASA explained how to work the rocket. They said it was hard but they thought they could do it.

Justice and Deavay went off into space, on the way they put on autopilot, “Man I wonder were gonna fi-” Deavay said while walking into a room. “Justice” Deavay said Justice went to him and found all the animals he brought. “I thought you said you were only bringing a PIG not a cow, fish, chicken, And an SHEE-” Deavays words were cut off when an meteor hit the ship and knocked it's off course. ‘What was that’ Justice said as the where about to crash into a planet.

The ship was heading to a planet made of Rocks But when the ship almost hit the planet it got pushed back. They Looked at the Planet through an telescope and saw alien looking things with cannons that pushed them back, Justice and Deavay decided to return the attack.They went to the armory to the weapons to counterattack, Me and Justice grabbed some melee and ranged weapons but what they didn't know is that the ship had weapons of it's own. When Me and Justice were about to return fire we didn't see the enemy but when we came close too they planet we were pushed back again and saw the aliens but they disappeared again.

Justice found an machine on they ground and saw that it's was making a force field and alien holograms, so Justice destroyed it and they force field was gone. When they ship landed Justice stuck a machine in the ground to see if this planet is good for us and was to check for water if anything lives here or if theres even oxygen. There was a atmosphere which meant their was air and it's was clear, there were plants and water but no life forms. Me and Justice went back to earth too tell everyone that we found an Planet and it's was safe.

We would take all they resources on earth and take them to the new planet and then build houses to live in for now, than we will find other resources like metal or make concrete to make buildings and hotels. And than we will build more advanced buildings and then when this planet dies we will find another planet to live on… and we will also make a farm… with pigs… and cows… and other animals.

Task Description: write about the earth dying in 4017 and Me and my friend Justice went to find a planet. we had to write a problem I wrote 2, one of them was a meteor the second one is a force field bouncing us back.

Y5 & Y6 EXT mini production

I really liked doing the production because I was in the past and future and I had 2 different roles to play. For they future I was an robot and my costume was an vampire cape a clone trooper helmet and other things. I was able to have a lightsaber but I didn't want it. In the 60s (which was the past) I was an person called chubby checker  that was an singer that did Let's twist again.

What I could do better is have every have an mic so we wouldn't need to pass it an mic around. Next time we do this I want their to be more scenes. There were 6 scenes, scene 1 was the living room, scene 2 was outside, scene 3 was Samoa, scene 3 was the 60s, scene 5 was future and they last scene was outside again.

Deavay kayaking

               Minty surprise/turkish delight

If I could I would eat cadbury chocolate every day in the afternoon.

Everybody got cadbury chocolate but there were four different flavours I got turkish delight. I thought it was raspberry or strawberry because of they smell.

The minty surprise chocolate smelt like strawberry with an scent of raspberry. It's looked like there is caramel inside the chocolate. On they bottom of the chocolate it's was smooth and a little bumpy on the sides. They insides felt like jello and looked like jello and there was 4 little holes near the corners.

I think they could use an different chocolate with the minty surprise like minty surprise with white chocolate. They could add more of the mint or make it's more yum.

{L\I would recommend this because it's delicious and It cost 3.99. with scent of raspberry and strawberry

Deavay emersion assemply term two 2017

Walt: Using exciting language
On they first day of term 2 on monday we had an immersion assembly. At they hall there was a table that had a pc and different kinds of laptops/chromebooks. All the team's had a short movie to show what they were doing and what the will be learning about..

This terms topic is Now That's Thinking. Team 1/3s movie was about kites. Team ones movie was about 4 kites for matariki and four female teachers. Team threes movie was about the stars and how the got there. Team two's movie was making kites like team ones movie. Team fives movie was about fixing and they were building a garden for their class.

Team four was learning about what technology the maori people used in the before they pakeha people came. One of mr goodwin's Ideas (In the movie) was learning about a flux capacitor for a time machine. In team fours movie all the teachers in team 4 discussed what they were going to teach the kids.

I want to learn about technology and how it's works and what kind of technology we used in the past. I want to learn how planes and cars worked in the past. I also want to learn what kind of weapons maori people used in the past. I want to learn how maori people lived and what they did to entertain themselves.

I'm like the topic for term 2 but I thought it's was about drawing because there were drawings of car, people, helicopters and more. I wonder what next term's topic will be and they next thing we're gonna do.
Task description: writing a recount from the first day of term 2 on 2017. explaining what had happen and what was there. explain things the happened in the team movies and what happened in the movies .

Eating insects

Walt: writing a recount
On Thursday I thought it's was gonna be a normal day but no. Mrs Stickland was our teacher and she said we were eating insects and they were real! But they were dead. We all got into groups and Mrs Stickland gave us a napkins and put crickets on it with mud.
The kids in my group are Lepa, Justice, Arthur, Hopa and Awathan. All of the kids in the group had a cricket but me. I wanted to try the mud and it was disgusting and then I tried a cricket leg and it was crunchy but I spat it out than I had another one and spat it out again. I really didn't like bugs or insects so I didn't eat a full crickets.
In the end I felt sick and Mrs Stickland took the napkins with the crickets and told us we had to write a recount. This was a fun and yuck experience and I never want to eat a bug or touch it. It also tasted like burnt toast. That was a one in a lifetime, I hope!
Task description: we had to write about the experience about eating crickets. adding detail so the reader knows when, what and who ate bugs. writing a recount about eat crickets with mud. explaining what had happen and how we felt about doing this

The last two weeks we made our own insect and last week we made a spider. later story about them having a fight or something else like saving each other. the arrows you see are to show what eats what or what eats it. we had to add pour made up insect and spider and put in what it eats or what eats it.

Insect vs spider

Walt: writing about our spider and insect

In the middle of the forest, up in an tree the burial is enjoying eating bugs but out of the corner of it's eye it can see an spider just staring at the buriel without moving. The blue back spider backs away only to jump back at the buriel trying to grab it but the buriel gets out of it's way. The buriel charges at the blue black spider and rams it with his horn knocking each other off the tree.

Both of them fall to the ground but the spider grabbed on to something and the buriel just fell to the ground horn first. The buriel struggles to get it's horn free while the spider falls and rushes towards it's. The spider knocks it off it's horn allowing the burial to smash it's horn on the spider.

The buriel smashes it's horn into the spider making the spider weak than the burial stings it too kill it. The buriel started eating the spider. all that's left of the blue back is the blue blood on the ground. The buriel climbs up the tree only to be eaten by a bird.

Deavays blue back spider

The blue back like the red back spider but it's not poisonous and doesn't bite. The blue back spider lives high in trees and it's ears beetles and small bugs. It's enemies are wasps, red back spider, and birds. It is 1.9m wide and 3.2m long. the blue back hunts for its pray by find a hole were it can fit in them grabs the pray and eats it. if on the ground the blue back digs a hole and waits for a bugs.

Mosquitoes are a tiny stinging insect but a big nuisance. Female mosquitoes bite everywhere they go. The are annoying bugs that suck our blood, like a tiny Vampire. They make us itch, like we are dogs with fleas. Mosquitoes are a doctor’s worst nightmare because they spread disease.

task description: we had to make a bug of our own and had to make it like a bug. we had to design it with a thorax abdomen and a head and add things like a stinger or horn or wings. we had to follow the insect rules so it had to had three of the same legs instead of four or five or spikes on its back

second camp 2017

Have you been on an camp trip before? Well I have. We had to bring an big bag full of cutlery bowls and plates other stuff and a sleeping. We did all sorts of activities and one of them were kayaking and we also went to the pools.

Camp is something that only year six and fives do and we sleep in tents on the rough ground (It was very uncomfortable) and do fun things. We sleep on our school fields and we get our own tent with other people. We stayed at school for three days and was at Pt England 2017 week 6. Our activities were kayaking, killer zone (it's a obstacle course), get lost, youth town and other.

Going to the pools was one of my favorite parts because it's was fun swimming but it's was cold but still fun. Another fun activity was kayaking because it's was my first time doing it's but it's  was really fun and cold. My last favorite one was youth town it was challenging because their were two team's but the team I was in lost and it's was hard.
I want to thank everyone that help with camp like the team four teachers and our parents for paying for camp. I also want to thank our leaders for trying hard to make our team win (presidents) and I want to congrat the sheriffs and principals for coming 2nd and 3rd. I really had lots of fun at camp but it's was the last time we did it's but we got year 7 and 8 camp next year.

At camp you will need a lot of teamwork because it's will work better with hard activities like with killer zone and youth town. I think the year fives and sixes should do this because this was an really fun thing to do and you will see what it's like sleeping in a tent. The hard thing about camp is paying and getting everything for camp.

2017 camp

To more days before camp and i'm excited for it. I really want to watch the movie that I voted for and I hope it's doesn't rain like before so we don't get wet or have too wake up at 3:00 in the morning. I'm nervous about kayaking because I don't know how or what to do but it's still will be fun anyways.

The things i'm excited about is the movie, it might be a movie I haven't seen before because there's only 1 movie I haven't seen. Another thing i'm excited about is the pool where going to I have been there before it's really fun but it's really cold and there's an volcano and to slides. There are two pools a indoor pool and an outdoor pool the indoor one is warn and the other pool is cold, and thes a water park.

I'm hoping for camp to be warm and sunny because it's been really cold lately and cloudy. I'm hoping we could do the kayaking because last camp my team couldn't do because the tide wasn't in and because it's was cloudy.

Something i'm nervous about is our camp dance because it's very weird and hard but we have a good chant. The group i'm in is called the presidents and i'm with three friends and I hope we don't get the least points. I don't know what things were going to do but I really want to make a fire and cook stuff again.

Deavay native birds writing

Why do we need more birds in tamaki and what kind of birds do we need? We are losing or getting more of a bird, that we may or may not like. Some birds are dying because of what we do like littering or hunting because birds don't know if rubbish in the water is edible or not so they.

I think we need more kiwis because there are 68,000 kiwis but you think we don't need anymore but we lose 2% of them so we lose 20 per week. After many weeks we will lose our kiwi and they will go extinct. Some people are trying to save the kiwis by breeding them and protecting them. There are 5 kinds they are the rowi, brown kiwi, great spotted kiwi/roroa the little spotted kiwi, and the tokoeka. Threats to chick kiwis are stoats and too adult dogs so when you walk your dog and see a adult kiwi make sure you keep control of the dog.

I think their should be more bell birds because rats and stoats keep their numbers low and because they can be found in forests with low or no predators. You can help the bell birds by not throwing rubbish in waterways or storm drains and restore the bell bird habitat or take it's in feed it's well and keep it's in when it's night. You can also set traps for stoats and rats.

We shouldn't had magpies because they eat bird eggs and chicks because they are omnivores. Magpies eat beetles, seeds, berries, small mammals, small birds even reptiles. A way to protect little birds chicks, and bird eggs are too put shiny stuff near them because magpies actually don't like shiny stuff but it's believed they steal them for their nest. Magpies are also closely related to crows,jays and ravens and magpies recognize them self in mirrors.

I think it's would be better if we could see more of the kiwis and bell birds and less of magpies because bell birds are heard before found because they sing. Kiwis will go extinct after an couple of weeks and bellbirds are only found on pest free island. Magpies eat almost anything so it could wipe out the kiwis but that's just an suggestion so it probably can't.
